I'm having a really difficult time deciding if something has changed recently with how deviantart displays colors or if maybe I've been completely unobservant. I recently posted this image:
The darks are much darker than the original file, and the purples far more saturated. At first I thought maybe it had something to do with the program I'm using, Paintstorm Studio. However, so far as I can tell, there's no color profile settings in that program, so I did a little experiment using windows' snip tool, and came up with this:
This also shows several iterations of colors becoming darker and/or more saturated. The hightened saturation can be seen best in the forest at the bottom right corner and at the lower edge of the space dust trail or whatever you wish to call it. This prompted me to go back and look at all my other works on DA compared to their original files. In general I've found that darks are much darker across all my images including images that I had done in Photoshop and Paint tool SAI. Some colors grow more saturated, purples in particular, but lighter colors tend to remain the same or very close to their original colors. For example this piece here:
has remained fairly true to its intended colors in the original file on my computer. So here's where I'm stuck. Has this always been like this and I've never noticed, or has something changed in DA recently to cause this? If this has always been an issue how do I fix this when the programs I'm using don't have color profiles as is suggested as the culprit in my google search for this problem? For a bit further information this problem has spanned across works I have done in Windows snip tool, Paintstorm Studio, Photoshop, and Paint Tool SAI, so I'm finding it somewhat unlikely that this issue is related to the programs themselves. However I've not ruled that out as a possibility.

Paintstorm Studio

So I purchased licenses to a new art program called Paintstorm Studio and I've been thoroughly enjoying it. I have since switched over to this new art program and feel no need to look back to photoshop or paint tool sai. The program works very well, and is exceedingly affordable, as I purchased 2 licenses for $29 dollars. Finally a good art program I can afford! Even better it saves in a PSD format, so it should be compatible with programs like sai or photoshop.
As an example of a little of what this program is capable of I drew this piece entirely in Paintstorm Studio:
This program also has a lot of features that i still have yet to play with, such as additional brushes and tools, but I'm very much enjoying the way it works. I highly recommend you guys at the very least take a look at their free 30 day trial to see if this program could be right for you!

All of our saddles come equipped with two saddle bags, one on either side of the bird, a waist buckle, two buckles on either side of the bird's neck, and ringed joints. This design is tailored for both ease of rider use, and comfort for the Stryx itself.
